Artist Spotlight: 1767 Designs

We love quality handmade goods, especially those made by local artisans. So naturally, we adore the work of 1767; a Nashville company that specializes in custom furniture and wall art with a Southwestern-inspired aesthetic. The company got its start when founder Patrick Hayes was in need of furniture for his own home and decided to build pieces for himself. He was definitely onto something. So, with a few talented friends and a passion for salvaging a bit of old Nashville, 1767 was born and has been leaving its mark on some of the coolest spaces around town ever since. We're looking at you Urban Cowboy BNB, Public House and McCarn BNB.

In the beginning, friends would tell Patrick about neighbor's houses that were being torn down, allowing him to go and save the wood before it was destroyed. Today, he works directly with developers, bringing in a team and dismantling houses, sometimes within just a day or two. From there, they test the wood pieces for toxins, then clean and lightly sand each one leaving the perfectly weathered wear and tear of the past intact.

The Monroe; a gorgeous gradient piece of white-washed and charred wood, was the perfect accessory to add character to this modern and bright bedroom. As is with all of their designs, each piece includes the address where the home once stood and the year it was built. This specific piece is constructed with wood from a 1935 Nashville home. Just imagine the stories it could tell...

With the 1767 piece front and center, we added two plug in sconces on either side of the bed to bring in a touch of drama and contrast. The crisp white bedding became the backdrop for accent pillows that give a little pattern and a ton of texture. To keep it feeling light and bright, we added modern white nightstands and kept the styling fresh and simple.  White hydrangeas add softness on the right, while 2 candlesticks, a touch of greenery and some books give interest and height to the left side. A vintage chair, casual lighting and a framed print anchor the corner's reading nook.  On the same wall, we used natural elements like branches, dried flowers and faux sheepskin to complete the modern-rustic vibe.
