Hi Michelle, tell us a little bit about yourself and your background:
My name is Michelle Mosqueda, I was born and raised in Las Vegas (yes, people actually live there) and I’m based in sunny Los Angeles and have called it home since 2007.
Describe your style as an artist. What medium do you use?
I’m a photographer! Most of the time I shoot using ambient light, because sun rays and exaggerated shadows excites me the most. My style is vibrant, natural and consistent. I always try to capture the best side of someone, or some place. I'm a purist but I like finding a way to compliment what already exists.
Where do you find inspiration?
Traveling! If I’m in a destination where everything looks different than what I’m used to seeing, I can’t help but feel fuelled to pick up my camera.
What’s a typical workday look like for you? Tell us about your process.
I do yoga in the mornings to mentally prepare me for the day. After my shower and coffee, I sit down and tackle my to-do lists. If I don’t have a photo shoot, then my day is filled with answering emails and editing photos, which can get strenuous–especially when working alone–so I try to take breaks in between to maintain my sanity.
What does your workspace look like? Do you work from home or in a studio?
I work from home, and have a back studio I use as an office. It’s becoming more of a priority to work within a comfortable and attractive space. I have an eclectic style with art on the walls from artists I know personally, and unique knick knacks that all have their own stories. I prefer to surround myself with things I can stare at besides my computer screen.
Who are some of your favorite artists? Musicians? People that inspire you?
Frida Kahlo will always be on the top of my list because she was bold, vulnerable and was able to convey deep truths with such sophistication. And she didn’t let physical ailments stop her from making art. Mariah Carey, because not only does she have one of the best voices we’ll ever hear, but in an award speech she recently said something that I resonate with:
“I started making music out of a necessity to survive. And to express myself, and I just wanted to create something so I could feel worthy of existing.”
Also, I’m crushing hard/inspired by the talented work of Mark Ronson, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Ramy Youssef. Oh, and always Conan O’Brien, because his humor gives me life.

I have an online art shop with a variety of photographs I’ve taken from around the world: michellemosquedaprints.com. And, I’m working on putting together an art show in Spring 2020!
