Project Reveal: Modern Glam Home With Bold Floral Wallpaper

June 13, 2018 Scout Modern

This modern town-home, completed in 2017 is one of our biggest and boldest design projects to date and I'm so happy to finally share it here on the blog! Our fearless clients gave us carte blanche in transforming their 3-story home from a blank slate into a dramatic showstopper complete with a gigantic floral statement wall and custom finishes throughout. That fearless attitude and unfettered trust in our selections and processes made this one of our most creative and FUN endeavors ever. Ever, ever, ever!! It's easy to call this project a favorite and that speaks just as much to the project as it does our clients!

We began the design in the dining area which features 16' ceilings and long rectangular wall insets. We wanted to make a impact in this space and as mentioned, the clients were not afraid to go big... so we did, literally! We started with a dramatic statement wall, using Ellie Cashman's Dark Floral II wallpaper to break up the wall space and add a bold contrast with tons of dimension. The wallpaper's larger than life flowers: a mix of dahlias, peonies, roses, tulips and hydrangeas, feel as if they are jumping out of the wall above! Next came the elegant 12-light chandelier with draped glass beads and modern round bulbs. The Arteriors fixture is romantic and glamorous, and perfectly compliments the bold statement wall. The result is bold, sexy and feminine.

We added glamorous texture to the room with Anthropologie's Elowen chair by furniture designer Jerri Hodby; they feature a plush velvet upholstery and polished brass accents.

The wall niches are styled minimally with a collection of metallic and natural accents including a manzanita branch, candles, quartz & gemstones. We topped the solid mango dining table with a blush-colored rose arrangment by Ezai Floral Design and grounded the space with a soft, organic shape using a brown hide rug.

What began as a bit of a design dilemma, the existing raised platform soon became the perfect opportunity for 16' of cushy daybed lounging. The custom down-envelope cushion is wrapped in a Belgian washed linen, hand-selected to compliment the dining chairs. Throw in loads of accent pillows in a variety of textiles: velvet, linen, faux fur, silk & vintage mud cloth and you've got yourself the most epic daybed situation, ever!

Next to the daybed, a sleek and modern strut console table is styled with a large brass mirror creating a grand entrance (opposite the front door) and bouncing the abundance of natural light around the room.

The living room's marble top coffee table with sleek thin frame is styled with a vintage brass tray, abstract candelabra and large quartz crystal; a set of hide chairs sit opposite the sofa creating a conversational seating arrangement. A beautiful sculpture by Taiwanese sculptor, Gaylord Ho sits atop a tall display pedestal.

The monochromatic living area features a custom down-filled sofa. Black and white mud cloth pillows contrast the Belgian linen's soft gray upholstery. A large piece of driftwood is hung behind the sofa to add an organic element - both in material and shape.

The oversized photography piece by Isaac Zoller for Tappan Collective is moody and adds movement to the space. It's hightlighted by a dimmable gallery light in satin nickel finish. We juxtaposed the crashing waves piece by placing the owners graceful (and stunning) "Rejuvenation" sculpture on a tall pedestal.

Upstairs, the loft area features the same dark floral wallpaper and a view of the dining and living space below. HD Buttercup's Sawyer sofa in a velvet blush pink makes a big  statement while complimenting the hues behind it. Just across from the office, this space serves as a glam, boss babe lounge area and the most perfect statement wall for snapping a selfie (or two!).

We wanted the guest bedroom to have a boutique hotel vibe. We used a palette of blues, grays and black to create a the moody, coastal look here.

A framed photography print by Petros Koublis hangs above the bed and the metal nighstands are styled minimally, using natural elements greenery, metals and rocks (a theme throughout the home's design). The sleek swing-arm sconce adds a funky, interesting shape and height to the room. We dressed the bed with Parachute linens and a custom hand-dyed, hand-plaited bed runner from a Scout fav, Taftyli.

The slightly distressed dresser with brass hardware is styled with a gray marble tray and florals by Ezai Floral Design. The black crystal base lamp from CB2 keeps with the gemstones vibe and feels both glam and playful. The large round mirror moves light around the room and gives guests a vanity area to dress.
